Human remains found in New York City yard may date back to the 1970s: Source

MicroStockHub/iStock(NEW YORK) — Human remains uncovered in a New York City backyard on Tuesday may be related to a cold case dating back to the 1970s, according to a source, who cited a tip to detectives.

The tipster, an unidentified woman who used to live at the home, told authorities that one night in the 1970s she awoke in middle of the night and saw her mother’s boyfriend cutting up a body and putting it in bags, according to a police source.

Police found the human skeletal remains in the back of a home in Richmond Hill, Queens around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the New York Police Department.

Police found two bags containing bones, according to the source.

The remains have not been identified, police said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, according to police.
