Courtesy Henry HoltElton John celebrated his 72nd birthday on Sunday by revealing the cover art and title of his upcoming autobiography.

The book is called, simply, Me, and it’s cover features a black-and-white ’70s-era photo of Elton, with only his glasses in color.  He announced the news in a YouTube video, in which he said, in part, “I hope it encourages you to go out and buy it when the book comes out in October. Until then, bye bye!”

Me will be in stores October 15, and is available for pre-order now.  According to The Bookseller, Elton will promote the book by appearing “in conversation” at London’s Hammersmith Apollo venue in November, and will also do an in-store book signing at a bookshop in London’s famed Piccadilly Circus.  He’ll promote the book in the U.S. as well.

Jeremy Trevathan of Pan Macmillan, which is publishing the book, is quoted by The Bookseller as saying that Me will be an “incredibly frank, funny and personal story.”

He adds, “It’s honest, irreverent, moving, revealing and, for the reader, it feels like Elton is sitting there, looking you in the eye, laughing and talking to you directly — and it’s such a pleasure to be in his company.”
