BMGIn early 2018, founding Allman Brothers Band singer/guitarist Dickey Betts returned to performing after a three-year hiatus before multiple health issues sidelined him again later in the year.

One of the concerts Betts and his solo band did play last year was a show on July 21 on Staten Island in New York City, and the event has been documented for a new album and home video that will be released next month.

Ramblin’ Man: Live at The St. George Theatre will arrive on July 26 and will be available as a CD/Blu-ray collection and a two-LP vinyl set. The audio versions of the release feature seven songs, while the video boasts three additional performances.

Among the tunes Betts and his band played at the show were such Allman Brothers classics as “Blue Sky,” “Midnight Rider,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Whipping Post,” “Jessica” and, of course, “Ramblin’ Man.”

Dickey’s group featured his son Duane Betts on guitar, while the late Gregg Allman‘s son Devon made a guest appearance on “Midnight Rider,” which was one of his father’s signature Allman Brothers Band songs. Duane and Devon now play together in the Allman Betts Band.

Prior to its physical release, the Ramblin’ Man concert film will be screened on DirecTV stating this Friday, June 14; check local listings for exact air times and dates.

As for Dickey’s aforementioned health issues, he suffered a mild stroke in August, then sustained a serious head injury in an accidental fall at his home in September. He’s said to be “recovering well,” and revealed in a March 2019 interview with the Herald-Tribune that he doesn’t completely rule out a return to performing.
