Courtesy of AXS TV/Joy FactoryA new AXS TV series titled MIXTAPE, featuring artists discussing their all-time favorite songs while revealing their own personal mixtapes, will premiere Thursday, September 12, at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
Among the music stars who will appear on the show: Foreigner‘s Mick Jones and Kelly Hansen, The Doors‘ Robby Krieger, ex-Eagles guitarist Don Felder, Todd Rundgren, REO Speedwagon‘s Kevin Cronin and Dave Amato, Don McLean and Rick Springfield.
Each show features one or two artists talking about how the songs and musicians on their playlist impacted their lives and careers. Some episodes also include impromptu unplugged performances by the guests, showcasing their favorite tunes.
The premiere episode features Foreigner’s Jones and Hansen. On the show, Mick shares an anecdote about meeting The Beatles in France shortly before the group’s first U.S. tour, while Kelly recalls getting to sing reggae pioneer Johnny Nash‘s hit “I Can See Clearly Now” with Nash himself.
You can check out a preview trailer for MIXTAPE on AXS.tv now. It features various scenes from the show, including Felder recalling seeing Elvis Presley for the first time on The Ed Sullivan Show, Cronin remembering seeing The Beatles’ historic Sullivan appearance, McLean talking about his love for Buddy Holly and his song “That’ll Be the Day” and Krieger revealing that “Don’t Be Cruel” was the first Elvis song that got to him.
The promo also features glimpses of McLean singing his classic song “American Pie,” Cronin and Amato performing the REO Speedwagon hit “Keep Pushin’,” and Krieger strumming through “Don’t Be Cruel” alongside actor/musician Dennis Quaid.
Each episode will also appear as a podcast on Spotify, while the mixtapes themselves will be available on the streaming service.
