BMGThe Pretenders‘ Chrissie Hynde has enjoyed plenty of success on the pop and rock charts during her long career, but the singer has now made a mark on the jazz world as well.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s new jazz-dub project, a collection of cover tunes titled Valve Bone Woe, has debuted at the top of Billboard’s Traditional Jazz Albums chart.
The album, on which Hynde collaborated with award-winning producers and film score composers Marius de Vries and Eldad Guetta, also bowed at #2 on Billboard‘s overall Jazz Albums chart following its September 6 release.
As previously reported, Valve Bone Woe features 14 songs, including versions of songs written and/or recorded by The Beach Boys‘ Brian Wilson, The Kinks‘ Ray Davies, Frank Sinatra, Hoagy Carmichael, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Nick Drake and Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Hynde recorded the album with a musical collective called the Valve Bone Woe Ensemble.
Chrissie currently has one show scheduled in support of Valve Bone Woe: a November 24 concert at Royal Festival Hall in London at which she’ll be accompanied by the ensemble.
The album is available on CD, as a two-LP vinyl set and as a vinyl box set featuring seven seven-inch discs. Various special bundles can be purchased at Hynde’s online store.
