Capitol Records/UMeBob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band wrap up their Roll Me Away farewell tour on November 1 in Philadelphia, and later that month a remastered version of the Michigan rockers’ chart-topping 1980 album Against the Wind will be reissued on vinyl, in honor of its upcoming 40th anniversary.
The remastered Against the Wind LP will be released on November 22, and can be pre-ordered now. It will be available on standard black vinyl and as a limited-edition translucent-blue vinyl version. That version also comes with a bonus seven-inch black vinyl single featuring two early Seger recordings: “Lookin’ Back” and “Lucifer.”
Released in February 1980, Against the Wind was Seger’s only album ever to reach #1 on the Billboard 200, spending six consecutive weeks atop the chart in May and June of that year. It includes three top 20 singles — the title track, “Fire Lake” and “You’ll Accomp’ny Me” — as well as classics like “The Horizontal Bop,” “Her Strut” and “Betty Lou’s Gettin’ Out Tonight.” Against the Wind has gone on to sell over 5 million copies in the U.S.
The Eagles‘ Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit contributed backing vocals to “Fire Lake,” while Seger’s old friend Frey also added harmony vocals to the title track. In addition, Dr. John played keyboards on “The Horizontal Bop.”
As for the tracks featured on the colored vinyl version’s bonus single, “Lookin’ Back” was originally released in 1971, and this marks the first time it’s being reissued since then. “Lucifer” was the sole single released from Bob’s 1970 studio album, Mongrel.
