Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic, IncNirvana‘s video for their breakout hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” has joined YouTube’s billion-views club.
The iconic visual, which stars the grunge trio rocking out in a grimy gymnasium alongside anarchist cheerleaders and moshing teens, officially passed the milestone on Christmas Day.
“Smells Like Teen Spirit,” of course, was the lead single and opening track off Nirvana’s massive 1991 album, Nevermind. Its video initially premiered in September 1991, and was uploaded to YouTube in June 2009.
Only one other music videos from the ’90s has hit one billion views on YouTube: “November Rain,” by Guns N’ Roses.
