Courtesy of Songwriters Hall of FameSteve Miller and Eurythmics are among the artists who’ll be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this June in New York City.
Miller, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, has penned memorable hits including “The Joker,” “Rock’n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Take the Money and Run,” “Living in the USA” and “Abracadabra.”
In a message posted on his Facebook page, Steve writes, “Writing songs and playing music has been a wonderful life for me and to be inducted into a hall where Merle Haggard, Willie Dixon, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, and Paul McCartney are in the room is an unexpected honor and I’m delighted and grateful.” He also praises the Songwriters Hall of Fame for “provid[ing] songwriting and music programs at NYU and USC as well as providing individual scholarships.”
Eurythmics — Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart — created hits like “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Here Comes the Rain Again” and “Would I Lie to You.” Separately, Lennox is an Oscar- and Grammy-winning songwriter whose solo hits include “Why” and “Walking on Broken Glass.” Stewart is a Golden Globe- and Grammy-winning composer who’s co-written and produced albums and songs for the likes of Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Mick Jagger, Gwen Stefani, Jon Bon Jovi and more.
Other performing artists chosen for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame include Mariah Carey, The Isley Brothers, and Pharrell Williams, who’s being inducted with his Neptunes songwriting and producing partner, Chad Hugo.
Being inducted as non-performing songwriters are Rick Nowels and William “Mickey” Stevenson. Nowels co-wrote more than 60 top-20 singles, including Santana and Michelle Branch‘s “Game of Love” and Belinda Carlisle‘s “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.”
Motown executive and producer Stevenson co-wrote such classics as “Dancing in the Street” and “Devil with the Blue Dress On.”
In a statement, Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Nile Rodgers says, “The first thing you need to know is it’s about the song, the second thing you need to know is it’s about the song, the third thing you need to know is it’s about the song. I am very proud that we are recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time.”
The induction ceremony will take place June 11 in New York City. Additional honorees will be announced soon.
