Deadline Music/Cleopatra RecordsDokken frontman Don Dokken will release an expanded version of his 2008 solo album, Solitary, this Friday, January 31.
The album is a stripped-down collection of acoustic tunes, including original compositions and some select covers.
For the reissue, the veteran metal singer has added three cover tunes, including a rendition of “My Heart Will Go On,” the classic Oscar-winning theme song to the film Titanic originally sung by Celine Dion. The other new songs are versions of “Jealous,” a 2014 tune by British electronic musician Labrinth, and “All That Love Can Be,” a song that appeared on the 2001 soundtrack of the film A Beautiful Mind.
“My Heart Will Go On” and “All That Love Can Be” were both co-written by composer James Horner, who was killed in a plane crash in 2015 at age 61.
In a March 2019 interview with the Focus on Metal podcast, Don explained that he decided to record those two songs as a homage to Horner, who was a friend of his.
Regarding his version of “My Heart Will Go On,” the singer said, “I Don Dokken-ized it.”
Solitary originally was only available on CD and sold exclusively at Queensryche‘s 2008 tour that featured Don as the opening act.
The album featured several guest musicians, including former Firm bassist Tony Franklin and lauded session drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, who’s worked with Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, Sting and many others.
You can pre-order the Solitary reissue now. It’ll be available on CD, on all digital platforms, and as a limited-edition red-vinyl LP.
