Joyful Noise RecordingsA number of drummers from popular bands, including Blondie‘s Clem Burke and Pearl Jam‘s Matt Cameron, are uniting for Plan D, a new experimental project from producer Toshi Kasai.
In addition to Burke, the beat-keepers taking part include one-time Nirvana member and current Melvins drummer Dale Crover and Joe Plummer of Cold War Kids.
In Plan D, Kasai, who has worked with Melvins, Tool and Foo Fighters, “translates” drum beats played by those artists into a “medley of music via the use of triggered analog synths.”
“Toshi Kasai understands us drummers,” says Cameron. “This amazing collection of drum vignettes is a perfect example of how Toshi hears the music in our rhythmic patterns…Plan D stands on its own as a completely new musical entity and I’m super proud to be a part of it.”
As Kasai explains, “The unique and individual styles of drumming each tell a different story. It became an experimental, conceptual project. I directed their stories by writing notes on the synthesizer and triggering them by drum hits.”
The debut Plan D album, SW, is out now on vinyl. Three more records, NE, SE and NW, will be released throughout the year.
Here’s the SW track list:
“Golden Voyage”
“Stormy Sea”
“Distance and Duration”
“Landing, the Search Begins”
“Stumbling Through The Jungle”
“Whitewater”
“The Mystery of the Limestone Cave”
