ABC/Randy HolmesIggy Pop may be the Godfather of Punk, but on his birthday, he’s taking a stab at funk.
The iconic musician turned 73 today, and to celebrate, he’s released a cover of the 1971 chart-topping Sly and the Family Stone hit “Family Affair.” To add to the funk factor, Pop recruited Bootsy Collins of Parliament-Funkadelic to play bass.
“[This track] made me feel good and it was good company,” Pop says of the cover. “I hoped I could put it out and it would be good company for someone else too.”

Pop released his latest album, Free, last September.
