Tigers 13, Angels 1 – Sweeney and Carpenter each homer and combine to drive in 11 as Tigers pound Angels 13-1
Trey Sweeney and Kerry Carpenter each homered and had four hits, and they combined to drive in 11 runs as the Detroit Tigers pounded the Los Angeles Angels 13-1 to win three of four in the series. After Sweeney singled in the first run off Jack Kochanowicz in the second inning, Carpenter made it 3-0 with a two-run double to the right-field wall that Jo Adell kept inside the park but couldn’t catch. Carpenter’s eighth homer was a three-run shot off reliever Michael Darrell-Hicks for an 8-0 lead in the sixth. Sweeney finished with six RBIs and Carpenter drove in five — both career highs.

White Sox 5, Astros 4 – F/7 – White Sox rally to beat Astros 5-4 in game shortened to 7 innings by rain
Luis Robert Jr. tied it with an RBI single with two outs in the sixth inning, stole second base and scored the go-ahead run on Edgar Quero’s single as the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Houston Astros 5-4 in a game shortened to seven innings by rain. It was the White Sox’s second series victory of the season and their first series win against the Astros since July 2021. Chicago reliever Mike Vasil earned his first career win. Lance McCullers Jr. made his first start for Houston since Game 3 of the 2022 World Series. He kept the White Sox scoreless over 3 2/3 innings.

Brewers 4, Cubs 0 – Peralta helps Milwaukee avoid a sweep as Cubs lose Imanaga to hamstring injury
Freddy Peralta pitched six sharp innings to help Milwaukee beat the Chicago Cubs 4-0, with the Brewers’ lineup breaking through after an injury knocked out left-hander Shota Imanaga in the sixth inning. Milwaukee prevented the Cubs from earning their first road sweep of the Brewers since October 2015. The game was scoreless when Imanaga strained his left hamstring while heading toward first base in an unsuccessful attempt to complete a 1-6-3 double play. Imanaga grabbed the back of his left leg at the end of the play.

The Warriors will face the Timberwolves Tuesday night in Minnesota. Hield had a scorching first half with six 3-pointers and 22 points to carry the Warriors to a 12-point lead, with Curry scoring just three points before the break. Then Curry took over in the closing minutes and performed his signature “night night” gesture as the Warriors put the Rockets away.

Tyrese Haliburton made a go-ahead 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter that sparked a decisive burst for the Indiana Pacers, who stunned the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers 121-112 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Haliburton finished with 22 points and 13 assists, and he also made key plays on the defensive end, blocking a 3-point attempt by Max Strus with 2:12 left and converting it into a layup for a 10-point lead. Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 33 points.

NFL – The Commanders are hosting the 2027 NFL draft in Washington, AP source says
The 2027 NFL draft is heading to the nation’s capital, a person familiar with the details told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because President Trump is set to make the announcement on Monday at the White House. Washington hosting the draft two years from now is the latest off-field victory for the Commanders, a week since they reached an agreement with the D.C. government to build a stadium on the old RFK site. That is still pending council approval.  Pittsburgh will host the 2026 draft.

F1 – Oscar Piastri wins at Miami for 3rd straight F1 victory
Oscar Piastri maintained his advantage in the Formula 1 championship fight by winning the Miami Grand Prix for his fourth win through six races this season. Piastri has now won three consecutive F1 races for McLaren Racing, where he and teammate Lando Norris are trying to dethrone four-time defending champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull. Piastri is the first McLaren driver to win three consecutive F1 races in 28 years. Mika Hakkinen did it with a win in the 1997 season finale and then victories in the first two races of 1998. Norris was second as McLaren went 1-2.

Golf – Scheffler matches PGA Tour 72-hole record in 8-shot win at the Byron Nelson
Scottie Scheffler has tied the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record, finishing at 253 and running away with an eight-shot victory at his hometown CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The top-ranked player, who closed with a 63 to finish at 31 under par, tied the mark set by Justin Thomas at the 2017 Sony Open and matched six years later by Ludvig Aberg at the RSM Classic. Scheffler was in position to break the record before a flubbed chip that led to bogey on the par-3 17th hole and a par from a greenside bunker on the par-5 closing hole.

WNBA – Clark returns to Iowa in Fever’s preseason game against Brazil despite leg injury
Caitlin Clark made the shot everyone came to see. Clark stopped late in the third quarter of Sunday’s WNBA preseason game between the Indiana Fever and the Brazilian national team and launched a 3-pointer near the “22” logo on Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena court. It was the spot where she hit the shot in her senior season in 2024 that made her the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball. Clark, starting her second season with the Fever, scored 16 points in Indiana’s 108-44 win.

Horse – Plans are unclear for Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty for Preakness
Sovereignty’s Kentucky Derby victory in the muck at Churchill Downs sparked curiosity over whether the colt can build on his signature win over a possibly drier, faster surface on the Triple Crown trail. The question now is whether that test will come sooner or later. Trainer Bill Mott initially seemed inclined to bypass the Preakness on May 17 in Baltimore for the Belmont next month but will decide this week. Trainers for other Derby horses face similar decisions after a muddy race that was new for many competitors.
