If you like asparagus, you’re in the right place.

Michigan is the number one producer of the vegetable, producing about 26 million pounds a year. John Stephens owns Stephens Farm in west Michigan’s Walkerville and says the crop looks good this year.

“I would say give it to the climate, the soil, and the farmers that do just a fantastic job,” Stephens said. “I’m totally impressed.”

Stephens started growing asparagus in 1988 and has about 15 and a half acres in Oceana County, considered the Asparagus Capital of the World.

Asparagus generates about $30 million per year in Michigan, according to a Michigan State University study.
