The Berrien County Veterans Services Office is planning a Veteran Stand Down event for next month.

The office says the Veterans Stand Down is a gathering for all veterans to mingle and learn more about the services available to them in the county. Initially geared to support homeless veterans, Stand Down also refers to a grassroots, community-based intervention designed to help veterans at a single location providing access to community resources needed to rebuild lives and address individual questions and problems.

Last year’s Stand Down event featured live music, food and drinks, military surplus items, free haircuts, self-care workshops, and benefit check-ups.

The Veterans Services Office says it wants to connect the county’s veterans with access to food, clothing, medical, legal and mental health information, job counseling, referrals, and most importantly, companionship.

The Stand Down will be June 6 at the Berrien County Conference Room next to the Berrien County Health Department on Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can learn more right here.
