Two people are facing charges after a standoff in Niles Township on Sunday.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to Berrien Woods Apartments at 910 Woods Edge Drive around 11:20 p.m. on a report of shots fired.
A deputy spotted what the sheriff’s department calls “a disturbance” involving several people outside, as well as a man carrying a handgun. They all ran as the deputy approached. He chased them into an apartment, and the individuals refused to come out or answer the door when the deputy knocked.
More police came to the scene and evacuated nearby apartments as they treated the incident like a barricaded gunman. After a while, two men, one woman, and one juvenile finally came out of the apartment and were taken into custody.
A 24-year-old man from Niles and a 21-year-old-man from Dowagiac were arrested and taken to the Berrien County Jail on firearms charges.
There were no injuries in the incident.
