Recession fears are up and economic optimism is down.

The latest survey released this week by the Detroit Regional Chamber and Glengariff Group found opinions of the sitting president were largely based on respondent views of economic conditions. Glengariff President Richard Czuba explained.

Since January, we’ve seen those who say the economy is growing fall from 42 to 34,” Czuba said. “It’s an eight-point drop. 62% see a weakening economy. Back in January, it was 55. But it’s Democrats and independents that are dropping in their assessment of the economy.”

One of the takeaways from the survey is that with uncertainty on the federal level, it’s imperative that Michigan business leadership come together around a long term policy strategy that supports the longevity of the automotive industry.

The findings were shared Tuesday at the Mackinac Policy Conference.
