Something new is opening in Saugatuck later this week.
The new Saugatuck Wilds Nature Preserve will open on Thursday on the old airport property off 63rd Street. Saugatuck City Manager Ryan Cummins says it’s been largely untouched for many years.
“Eastern portion of the property, there’s a couple of different opportunities to actually kind of interact with Silver Creek,” Cummins said. “So there’s an overlook deck that looks down over Silver Creek., and then there’s another section of the trail that actually folks are able to go down maybe a bit of a steeper hill and embankment. They’ll be able to go actually go right down to the water.”
Cummins says there are nearly two miles of trails, with lots of wildlife and vegetation to see. He says Saugatuck gets lots of visitors in the summer with its downtown and its award winning Oval Beach, which now has public wi-fi.
