State officials have put out more air quality advisories because of Canadian wildfires.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy issued air quality advisories for levels of fine particulate in the air statewide Friday and into Saturday morning. Conditions may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, and there’s a possibility that hourly levels could reach the unhealthy range for a short period of time.

State Chief Medical Executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian says health leaders urge Michiganders to check the air quality index to decide if they should be participating in outdoor activities.

As of Thursday night, there were 173 active fires across Canada, including 92 categorized as being out of control, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center. Officials declared a state of emergency as thousands of residents were forced to evacuate.
