Are you putting money away for your child or grandchild’s college education?

Thursday was 5/29 Day, a chance for everyone to put a little more away in one college savings plan. The Michigan Education Trust is a 529 college savings plan where you buy tuition credits at today’s prices for the future.

MET Director Diane Brewer explains where those credits can be used.

They can use them at Michigan public universities and they’re fully covered for the number of credit hours that were purchased for them,” Brewer said. “Now students who weren’t, you’d go to a private institution in Michigan or to an out-of-state college and use a refund that we would calculate based on being equivalent to the Michigan public universities.”

Starting Thursday and through June 1, Brewer says if you open a new MET account online you’ll get a $50 bonus with a $250 contribution.
