Present Pillars in Benton Harbor is preparing to celebrate Dad Week next week, and it’s inviting all families to take part to show Dad that he’s appreciated.
Present Pillars Director James Gunter tells us this is the fourth year for Dad Week, something he thinks is really needed.
“I see dads every week that are just surprised that something exists for them,” Gunter said. “I call it the silent majority. We always hear about the dads in deficit. We should start talking about those dads that are constantly and consistently showing up for their families and they’re the unsung heroes.”
Next week will feature several special events or observances to honor dads, starting Monday.
“We’re encouraging everyone to wear blue and support of men’s health by bringing more awareness to men’s health and different things that ail men just a little bit more.”
Tuesday will bring Frank’s Tot Lot Clean-Up at Frank’s Park on East Britain Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone’s invited to help spruce up the park. Later, they’ll hold a private screening of Lilo & Stitch at Celebration Cinema. You’ll need to register to take part.
Gunter says Wednesday will feature a chance for professional pictures with dads and their kids at the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center.
Everything will wrap up on Sunday, Father’s Day, with Uncle Carl’s Father’s Day at the Beach at Jean Klock Park.
