A busy weekend for area law enforcement in Benton Harbor. Police responded to reports of a shooting wounding six at a large gathering and a different incident where gunfire erupted in broad daylight.

On Saturday, officers responded to the 1000 Block of Bishop Street in Benton Harbor for a complaint of a shooting at a large party.

Upon arrival officers located what they call a scene in chaos. They discovered that 6 people in total had been wounded by gun fire. One of those in critical condition. No suspects were reported arrested.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help with tips or leads as to what happened and who is responsible. Benton Harbor officers were assisted by the Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit and Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. People attending the gathering are asked by law enforcement to share any video or photos of the party or the shooting with police.

Also on Saturday, Benton Harbor police are investigating what’s being called a shootout “in broad daylight.”

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says officers were sent to the 600 block of Eighth Street on reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found evidence that a shootout had indeed taken place.

One bystander was injured and taken to a hospital. They are now in stable condition.

Police have identified and arrested one person involved, and they are looking for at least one other. No names have been released.
