Set for this Saturday is A Taste of Buchanan, a chance for everyone to take in downtown Buchanan and check out the dining options available.

Buchanan City Manager Tony McGhee tells us they’ve had Restaurant week before, but this is the first Taste of Buchanan. The restaurants themselves suggested it as a way of getting more people to come downtown while a major construction project continues.

“Even though we have detour routes, we can get people there, and we thought this was just a great opportunity to support those local downtown restaurants and show people that it’s still easy to get downtown,” McGhee said. “It’s accessible. You can still park and just walk a few feet to get to your favorite restaurants and shops.”

15 restaurants and shops are taking part in A Taste of Buchanan. The event will take place at the same time as the Jazz and Blues Festival, so McGhee says there will be all kinds of things to do.

“There’ll be music going on here for a significant part of the day. Our farmer’s market starts in the morning, goes all day. So it’s a great opportunity to come down, see some live music, get some of the great fruits and vegetables we have here in Southwest Michigan, and visit some of our great downtown restaurants and businesses we have there, show them some support.”

Some restaurants are holding special hours for the day so they can be open for all the extra visitors.

McGhee says whether you’re craving coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a sweet treat, downtown Buchanan will have you covered this Saturday. He invites everyone out for the first ever Taste of Buchanan.
