Two suspects have now been charged with felonies in relation to an alleged road rage incident that happened in Bertrand Township on June 6. 

The Berrien County Sheriff’s office says both suspects are from Mishawaka. In a statement, the sheriff’s office says 26-year-old Sean Rader is charged with Accessory After the Fact, a felony, and 18-year-old Ryland Mayfield is charged with three counts of Assault with intent to Murder, one count Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count Felony Firearms, one count Misc. Weapons Offense.

Officials say both individuals are lodged at the Berrien County jail and scheduled for arraignment on Friday.

In the incident, the sheriff’s office reported at approximately 3:38 AM, on June 6, 2025, police responded to JD’s truck stop for a victim that was shot. The individual was transported to the hospital for treatment. Officers learned that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that occurred nearby while the two vehicles were traveling on US-12, in Bertrand Township.

The male victim was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment.
