The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is making upgrades to its jail bookings website.

If you’ve ever looked at it, you might know the site lists everyone booked at the county jail each day. It used to show what charges each person faced, but for months now, that information has been missing. Sheriff Chuck Heit tells us that’s because the department’s software vendor is in the process of upgrading the whole system.

“In that upgrade, we’re hoping to even be able to provide some more information,” Heit said. “Being transparent, people, it’s a site that’s looked at often on the county site and on ours, so we know people find value in that. We’re trying to look at making it even more robust. From our standpoint, when we can give bond information, it keeps people from having to call in, and that they know what’s going on.”

Heit said they may even be able to include mugshots once the work is all finished.

Heit said he believes the update will be done soon. In fact, he’d been hoping it would be done by now.
