The 28th annual South Haven Cottage Walk is set for this Saturday.

SHOUT for South Haven’s Tom Renner tells us the event will be a chance for anyone to tour four homes around the community to learn some history, get some decorating ideas, and appreciate architecture.

The homes featured in this year’s tour include a historic 19-room residence overlooking Lake Michigan, two cottages reflective of the growing popularity of living near the lakeshore, and a newly constructed riverfront condominium. Renner says hundreds will take part in the tour.

It’s really a highlight of the summer for many folks who admire the exteriors of homes, but never really get a good look inside of them,” Renner said. “So this event, the Cottage Walk, affords that opportunity.”

Renner says that 19-room home is the Queen Anne Victorian of Dan and Mary Nulty that has some interesting history.

There was a convent for Saint Basil’s Church many, many years ago, and some of the intriguing history about that includes the fact that  the basement level was used as a roller rink by the nuns who lived in the convent.”

Renner says he’s heard the house is beautiful, although he’s never been inside.

The Cottage Walk will raise money for SHOUT for South Haven’s various programs, as well as the Scott Club of South Haven, which is seeking funds to install an elevator in its building.

Everyone’s encouraged to purchase tickets to the Cottage Walk in advance. They can be bought at the South Haven Chamber of Commerce and the South Haven Visitors Bureau. You can also buy tickets the morning of the walk at the Farmers Market in downtown Dyckman Park.
