The South Haven Police Department is investigating an apparent drowning in Lake Michigan on Monday.
South Haven Area Emergency Services says it was called to an area about five miles south of the lighthouse, off 20th Avenue, after a boater reported finding a woman unconscious in the water around 6 p.m. The boater was unable to pull the woman from the water, but did place a floatation device on her.
Upon arrival, SHAES responders swam about 500 feet out to reach the woman. She was then brought by boat to the city’s South Marina and then to a hospital, where police say she was pronounced dead.
Police have not yet identified the woman, and an investigation is now underway.
Anyone with information on the woman’s identity or the circumstances of her death is asked to contact the South Haven Police Department.
