Dillon Dingler hit a three-run home run, Kerry Carpenter added a two-run homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Athletics 11-4. Riley Greene had four hits, including a double, two RBIs and scored twice for the Tigers and Wenceel Pérez added two hits and two RBIs. Greene has 45 RBIs since May 1, second in the American League behind Seattle’s Cal Raleigh, and is batting .439 with 18 hits and 17 RBIs over the last 10 games. Tarik Skubal gave up four runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. The 28-year-old has won 10 consecutive home games, dating to Aug. 13, the longest active streak of its kind by a starter in MLB.
D’Backs 4, White Sox 1 – Ketel Marte hits home run as the Diamondbacks beat the White Sox 4-1
Ketel Marte hit a solo homer in the first inning, Alek Thomas and Geraldo Perdomo each had a seventh-inning RBI single and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the White Sox 4-1 on Tuesday night, Chicago’s sixth consecutive home loss. The Diamondbacks have won five of their last six. Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson gave up a run with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Cardinals 8, Cubs 7 – Masyn Winn homers, drives in 4 as Cardinals edge Cubs 8-7
Masyn Winn homered, drove in four runs and scored twice to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-7 win over the Chicago Cubs, their seventh win their last eight games. Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking one. Steven Matz (4-2) went 1 1/3 innings of relief and Ryan Helsley earned his 15th save in 20 tries. The Cubs lost their third straight, tying a season high. Cubs starter Jameson Taillon (7-5) allowed eight runs on eight hits.

Kamilia Cardoso scored a career-high 27 points, Angel Reese had a double-double and the Chicago Sky beat the Los Angeles Sparks 97-86 on Tuesday night. Reese finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Ariel Atkins scored 13 points for the Sky (4-10). Azura Stevens scored 21 points and Kelsey Plum added 20 for the Sparks (4-11), who lost their fourth straight. Dearica Hamby had 15 points and Rickea Jackson 11. Cardoso will miss the next four games playing for her Brazilian national team at a tournament in Chile.
Fever 94, Storm 86 – Boston scores career-high 31, Clark held to 6 points as the Fever beat the Storm 94-86
Aliyah Boston scored a career-high 31 points and Kelsey Mitchell chipped in 26 points and five 3-pointers as the Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm 94-86. Caitlin Clark scored just six points in the win on a tough shooting night. She went 0 for 6 from 3-point range and 3 for 13 from the field. Boston’s previous career best was 30 points on Sept. 8, 2024, against the Atlanta Dream. Seattle was led by Skylar Diggins’ 22 points.
WNBA – Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot has surgery to repair torn ACL in right knee
The Chicago Sky say guard Courtney Vandersloot underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Vandersloot suffered the season-ending injury in Chicago’s 79-52 loss to Indiana on June 7. She had the operation at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. A five-time All-Star, Vandersloot averaged 10.6 points and 5.3 assists in seven games. The 5-foot-8 point guard was selected by the Sky with the third overall pick in the 2011 WNBA draft and helped lead them to the championship in 2021. She spent the previous two seasons in New York and helped the Liberty win the WNBA title last year before returning to Chicago this season.
NBA/WNBA – NBA owners unanimously approve $1.5B sale of Wolves, WNBA’s Lynx
The $1.5 billion sale of the Minnesota Timberwolves from Glen Taylor to an investment group led by e-commerce entrepreneur Marc Lore and former baseball star Alex Rodriguez has gained unanimous approval by NBA owners more than four years after the deal was reached. The transfer that Taylor tried to stop last year includes the four-time WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx. Taylor is 83. The Minnesota native owned the Timberwolves for 31 seasons after buying them for $88 million after a deal to move them to New Orleans fell through. The estimated value of the Timberwolves has doubled since the initial agreement.
NBA – Pacers’ Haliburton after surgery to repair torn Achilles tendon: ‘I’d do it again’
Tyrese Haliburton has no regrets about trying to lead the Indiana Pacers to the franchise’s first NBA title, even though his decision to play hurt ended in agony when he tore his right Achilles tendon early in Game 7. The team announced the injury on Monday and Haliburton confirmed it in a social media post. It was a sad ending to Haliburton’s historic postseason run, which included a litany of incredible plays, buzzer-beating winners and occasionally unprecedented stat lines. And now he may miss all of next season. Haliburton says, “I’d do it again, and again after that, to fight for this city and my brothers.”
NBA – Cooper Flagg set to become Mavs’ new main man as the expected top pick in NBA draft
Cooper Flagg and his Duke teammates were together celebrating a victory over North Carolina the night of Feb. 1 when one of them saw the news that had rocked the basketball world. The Dallas Mavericks were trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Flagg says they were all in shock. Now Flagg is set to take Doncic’s place as the franchise superstar in Dallas. He is expected to be selected by the Mavericks with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft on Wednesday night after a sensational one-season stopover with the Blue Devils. The bulls pick 12th, while the Pistons and Pacers will not have a first round pick tonight.
NHL – Mogilny finally gets the call to the Hockey Hall of Fame
Alexander Mogilny’s long wait for the Hockey Hall of Fame is over, as the high-scoring Russian winger was selected as part of the eight-member class of 2025. He was joined by fellow former NHL players Joe Thornton, Zdeno Chara and former Chiicago Blackhawks Duncan Keith as well as women’s hockey stars Brianna Decker and Jennifer Botterill. Mogilny had been eligible for election for 16 years going back to 2009. Thornton, Chara and Keith all got in in their first year of eligibility. Longtime Boston University coach Jack Parker and women’s coach Daniele Sauvageau were elected in the builders category.
NFL – Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is ‘pretty sure’ the 2025 season will be his last
Aaron Rodgers is “pretty sure” the 2025 season will be his last in the NFL. The 41-year-old quarterback signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh earlier this month after two injury-marred seasons with the New York Jets. In an appearance Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers said, “I’m pretty sure this is it. That’s why we just did a one-year deal.” Rodgers agreed to sign with Pittsburgh after regular conversations with coach Mike Tomlin over a few months. He says he can’t think of a better place to finish his career.
FIFA – Players and fans at the Club World Cup are coping with high temperatures
Substitutes who watch from the locker room, abandoned practice sessions and sweat-soaked jerseys. A heat wave is taking a toll on players at the Club World Cup. It could be a preview of what is to come next year when the United States, Canada and Mexico host the 2026 World Cup. A sprawling “heat dome” of high pressure has settled in over the central and eastern United States, sending temperatures soaring into the 90s and above in many areas.
