Coming up on July 12 will be a major fundraiser for the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven.

Museum Membership Director Brent Paige tells us it’s the 23rd Annual Fish Boil, set to be held on the museum’s event grounds. They’ll be out there boiling up delectable fish dinners.

It’s a fun night,” Paige said. “A lot of people aren’t familiar with a fish boil, but it is a traditional Great Lakes event. Obviously it’s fish that is boiled. It’s healthier than fried fish and quite tasty. Someone last year described it as lobster of the lake. It’s finished with a nice butter lemon sauce as well.”

And Paige says there will be entertainment.

That evening there’ll be a 50-50 raffle, there’s a cash bar, lawn games, just a lot of fun and a chance for the community to come together and enjoy a night on the waterfront.”

Fish boils have been part of Great Lakes culture since the early 1900s, and the museum says it’s proud to keep the heritage of the tradition alive.

Guests will be treated to an authentic boil featuring lake fish, potatoes, and onions, a fresh roll, coleslaw, and a sweet scoop of ice cream for dessert. It will be $20 per plate and $10 for the kids with all proceeds going to the Michigan Maritime Museum.

Paige says you can get tickets at the door. The event on July 12 will run from 5 to 8 p.m.
