The Michigan Department of Transportation will hold its second annual Career Fest this July to help workers interested in job openings with the agency learn more and apply.

MDOT recruitment manager James Fults tells us there will be both an in-person event and an online event. He says there are plenty of jobs available at MDOT.

Anywhere from 20 to 40 different openings at any given time, and those range from engineers, electrician, maintenance workers,” Fults said. “One that we’re ramping up for, for our winter hiring. So each year, we hire around a hundred seasonal plow drivers.”

Fults says MDOT is ramping up recruitment for those winter hires in Southwest Michigan now.

Since the in-person job fair will be in Lansing, what will the virtual component be like?

The virtual component, it’s really just like a regular career fair. You’ll come in and see virtual booths, you’ll get in line, and then as people are available, you get connected and just have a quick conversation about  different careers available.”

With more than 100 career classifications represented, those who attend the fair will meet MDOT staff, explore career paths, and learn about those open positions and qualifications.

Fults says last year’s Career Fest attracted between 300 and 400 people, some of whom now work for MDOT. The events will be July 22 and 23 — with the virtual event on the 23rd — and registration is encouraged.
