The Southwest Michigan Tourist Council has a new name.

The organization says it will now be known as Visit Southwest Michigan.

Director Marcy Simpson says they were called the Southwest Michigan Tourist Council since 1982, but now, they serve the needs of all visitors, not just tourists. She says the new name, Visit Southwest Michigan, better reflects that mission.

Visit Southwest Michigan says it wants to reach those who travel to the area temporarily, whether from a nearby community or the other side of the world. Simpson says that includes leisure and business travelers, event attendees, friends and family visiting loved ones, traveling sports teams, and those considering relocating or starting a business here.

Watch for the new name on the Visit Southwest Michigan website, digital and print advertising, social media, and billboards. The organization’s logo also focuses specifically on St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, and Stevensville.
