The Lakeshore High School junior class is planning a 5K Fun Walk and Run to raise money for its prom.

Class Vice President Perry Powell tells us they’ve already raised about $3,000 for the prom, which will be held at the Silver Beach Carousel, but they need a little more.

“We’re hoping to put on a pretty big prom because the past couple years, the proms haven’t been really fundraised enough for us to have a good prom,” Powell said. “So, we decided to change that.”

Powell says the goal is about another $1,000, and then they can have a prom that will really be remembered.

“We’re just planning on having a pretty fire prom. We just want an amazing prom for our community to show how much work we’ve put in.”

Planning for the 5K has been underway since around January, and the big day is August 9. The run and walk will be at Riverview Park in St. Joseph with registrations at 8 a.m. and the run starting at 9. The event is open to all ages, and you can register online now. It’s $15 to take part.

Anyone who wants to help the Lakeshore class of 2027 have a great prom is invited to sign up and come have some fun.
