Berrien RESA is inviting Berrien County families who welcomed a new baby in 2025, and those expecting, to come out to a community baby shower planned for next month.
RESA Superintendent Eric Hoppstock tells us “Oh Baby! Celebrating Berrien Babies” will be held at the Lincoln Township Library greenspace from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 10. The celebration will feature a resource fair, mini-classes, raffles, and giveaways to help out those new parents who could use a hand. Hoppstock says new parents often could.
“For anybody that is a parent, when they set that baby in your arms, all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Huh, what am I supposed to do next?’ And this is an event that celebrates that,” Hoppstock said. “Lots of great gifts are going to be giving away. And if you have tried to put a car seat in a car lately, that requires an advanced degree. There’ll be people there that will just learn about car safety, safe sleep habits, baby fashion, healthy eating, child development.”
Hoppstock says the open-house event will provide an opportunity for parents, guardians, and caregivers to connect and learn about supporting their child’s development while receiving free baby supplies. Attendees will also hear “Baby Talks,” bite-sized learning about a variety of topics.
The first 225 families in attendance will receive a gift package with hygiene products, diapers, and other basics. Raffle items will be distributed throughout the day, and will include a stroller, baby carriers, a Pack n’ Play, a Zero-Gravity chair, gift certificates to businesses, and baby safety items.
The event will be free, and no registration is required. In addition to parents, Hoppstock says guardians of all kinds are welcome.
