A Bloomingdale man is facing charges after the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says he attached two of its deputies Monday.
The department says the deputies were called out to a home in the 3000 block of 37 1/2 Street in Bloomingdale Township around 10:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. A family member had called with concerns about the resident’s well-being.
When deputies entered the home, they say they announced their presence, and then the 41-year-old man ran out of a bedroom at the two deputies, striking both with a metal object before falling to the ground.
A taser was used to get the man under control, and after a short fight, he was handcuffed.
The two deputies received medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident. The 41-year-old suspect was lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on charges of assault with intent to maim, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of resisting and obstructing police and causing injury, and one count of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a paramedic.
The investigation is ongoing.
