The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says a woman who was found dead in Niles Township on Monday had been shot, and her boyfriend is now charged with open murder in the case.

The department says deputies were dispatched to a home at 1950 South 13th Street in the Franklin Woods mobile home park around 1:15 p.m. Monday on the death investigation. They arrived to find 29-year-old Courtney Hershberger deceased inside.

An autopsy performed at Western Michigan University has confirmed Hershberger died from a gunshot wound, and now the sheriff’s department says the 33-year-old Indiana man arrested Monday will be arraigned Wednesday afternoon. His name has not yet been released. He’s in the Berrien County Jail on open murder and weapons charges.

Police say more information will be released Wednesday.
