Congressman Bill Huizenga has decided not to run for the U.S. Senate.

Huizenga posted on X Wednesday that he won’t be making a run for the seat of retiring Senator Gary Peters after contemplating it for the past several months.

Huizenga writes, “After careful consideration with Natalie and my family, as well as in consultation with President Trump, I have decided against a bid for U.S. Senate in Michigan.” He says he’s proud of the effort to explore a run and grateful for the outpouring of support he’s received. Huizenga closes by saying he’ll announce his future plans later this year.

Huizenga’s decision not to run clears the way for Congressman Mike Rogers to seek the Senate seat after Rogers unsuccessfully ran for Debbie Stabenow’s senate seat last year.
