Schools around Michigan will be back in session in a few weeks, but there’s no school budget in sight.

K-12 Alliance of Michigan Director Robert McCann says the state Legislature should have had a budget by July 1.

We have really not only an indifference in terms of getting the budget done on time, we’ve seen leaders inside the Michigan Capitol kind of dismiss the concerns that schools have raised over this lack of budget certainty, but we also have a direct effort to tie school funding to a road funding plan,” McCann said.

McCann says some districts have had layoffs and they aren’t filling positions because of the lack of a budget.
