There will be an election next Tuesday, although only a couple of things will be on the ballot in a couple of Berrien County communities.

In Benton Harbor, there’s a primary being decided for one at-large city commission seat, as we’ve previously reported.

In Buchanan, City Clerk Kalla Langston told commissioners this week the library millage is up for renewal.

There is only one thing on the ballot for the city of Buchanan,” Langston said. “It’s a library proposal, put on by the library. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Come join us. Nobody ever shows up for the small local election. My workers will be bored. I’d love to see you.”

Langston said access to city hall will be maintained on Election Day, despite the construction going on. She said she’s been working with the contractors to make sure everyone can vote. Also, she said anyone can get an absentee ballot by contacting the clerk’s office. Langston will be there this Saturday for anyone who needs her.

The library millage renewal would be for ten years for the purpose of providing funds for all district library needs. It’s expected it would raise $132,000 in its first year.
