$25,000 state grants are coming to two Southwest Michigan small businesses for improvements to their properties.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation on Tuesday announced a total of 63 Match on Main program grants, amounting to $1.49 million, to help invigorate downtowns around the state. Included on the list of recipients are Front Street Pizza Pub in Niles and Nature’s Country Cupboard in South Haven.
In the case of Nature’s Country Cupboard, the business has fixed up a small treatment room to be used for things like massages and acupuncture. They also installed an ADA-accessible restroom. The manager tells us they’re “excited” to make the improvements, and the grant will now reimburse them for the work.
The MEDC says the Match on Main program serves as a tool to support new or expanding businesses by providing up to $25,000 in funding for them to launch or grow in core downtown areas. The latest Match on Main application period recieved the highest participation rate in the program’s five-year history.
