Coming soon to the South Haven Center for the Arts will be a new exhibit exploring environmental consciousness, transformation, and material reuse.

Center Director Kerry Hagy tells us Altered Consumerism will feature pieces from four artists who often work together. Robin Reva, James Palmore, Mary Hammer, and James Gordan Jackson all proposed the exhibit to the center.

They came up with this exhibition to bridge the themes between all of their work, which are — they all share a concern, like environmental consciousness and a concern for waste and material reuse,” Hagy said.

Hagy says the exhibit will put to use materials that were otherwise discarded.

Altered Consumerism includes paintings, sculptures from repurposed materials, portraiture, and drawings as well from Mary Hammer.”

Hagy says the artists are seeking to start a conversation about sustainability and the evolving relationship between humans and the natural world.

The exhibit will open with a reception featuring the artists on August 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. It will then remain open, and free to visit, during South Haven Center for the Arts regular business hours through September 20.

Hagy adds the center will also have activities set up to help visitors further contemplate the meaning of the exhibit.
