Benton Harbor City Commissioners have formally accepted a grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy for energy efficiency upgrades at city hall.

At their regular meeting on Monday, commissioners agreed to implement an agreement with EGLE for the Community Energy Management Program Grant of $100,000 for improvements that will include tuckpointing and sealing the building.

The grant requires no local match, meaning there will be no cost to the city. Commissioners Monday accepted the funds without comment.

This $100,000 grant comes on the heels of a $3.3 million grant from EGLE to install solar panels on city buildings, including city hall, the Bobo Brazil Community Center, and the water plant.
