Voters in a handful of Southwest Michigan communities headed to the polls Tuesday for primary elections.
In Benton Harbor, each voter could select two candidates for city commissioner at-large. The top four vote getters, in order, were Shaquille Turner, former Commissioner Mary Alice Adams, Diedre Fields, and Commissioner Duane Seats. According to the city, they will all now appear on the November ballot. In Buchanan, a renewal of the library millage was approved handily.
In Van Buren County, South Haven voters had a mayoral primary to decide. The top two voter getters were Mayor Annie Brown and city council member Mary Hosely. According to unofficial results, Hosley finished just four votes ahead of Joshua Lemmer. If the result doesn’t change, Brown and Hosley will go on to the November election.
For the South Haven City Council, in Ward One, Eddie Polk and Lisa Krupiarz came out on top. They’ll head to November. In Ward Two, Thomas Capps and Todd Heinrich were the top two. They’ll also head to the November election.
In Cass County, the only issue to decide was an operating millage renewal for Marcellus Community Schools. It passed. The school district thanked the community for its support.
All of these are unofficial results that could change as the numbers are certified.
