Spencer Initial Attack

South Haven-based Spencer Manufacturing, Inc. is a leader in building customized fire apparatus for cities, townships and other entities that buy firetrucks of varying sizes.  This week, Spencer is unveiling its new ‘Initial Attack’ vehicle– designed to be the first piece of equipment that arrives at a fire scene.
Spencer usually builds fire vehicles on order for specific fire department needs.  However, the new ‘Initial Attack’ has been built ‘on spec’, or as a ‘demonstrator’ (to use an old auto sales term).  Spencer will show off the unit to interested fire departments–and eventually one of them will ‘take it home.’
The experts at Spencer  say the Initial Attack is in a class of its own.  It’s built on a Ford F-600 chassis and equipped with a full-body pump, it’s the first apparatus of its kind with the power to move over 2,000 gallons of water  per minute.
According to Spencer, this groundbreaking configuration brings big-truck pumping power to a compact initial attack platform—typically the first apparatus to arrive on scene. With a smaller, more agile body designed for rapid response in remote, rural, or wildland environments, the truck provides maximum water flow in critical early moments of a developing fire, enabling faster and more effective suppression.
“The Initial Attack delivers more water to the scene faster,” says Grant Spencer, President of Spencer Fire Trucks. “That speed can mean the difference between a contained incident and a devastating loss. This versatile unit gives departments greater water flow, quicker response, and the capability they need to better protect homes, property, and lives.”
“We’re proud to bring forward innovations like this that make crews more effective and better equipped to protect their communities.”
