A Gobles man is facing several charges after a domestic violence incident in Van Buren County.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to a home in the 25,000 block of 36th Street just north of Paw Paw around 10 p.m. on Tuesday on a report of a woman who went to a neighbor’s home seeking help. She had visible bruising and bleeding.
The investigation found the victim’s boyfriend, a 31-year-old, had punched and kicked her multiple times, broke her phone as she attempted to call 911, and locked her in a bathroom. The victim eventually escaped and ran down the street to seek help.
Sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police troopers found the suspect riding a bicycle nearby. He’s now charged with assault by strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, interfering with electronic communications, and obstructing justice.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
