A pro fisher from Michigan is hoping to have a home-town advantage.

Chad Pipkens compares professional fishing to professional golf. They travel to tournaments across the country, and the top 100 compete over multiple days, leading up to the championship with a big prize. In this case, it’s the Bassmaster Elite Series on Lake St. Clair this weekend with $100,000 on the line.

Pipkins said that growing up in the Lansing area doesn’t necessarily mean he has a big advantage.

You’ve got to figure out the mood of the fish based on time of the year, where they’re at, and everywhere you go, everywhere is not your home lake,” Pipkins said. “And that’s why I choose to fish here. Lake St. Clair is probably fishing better than Lake Erie, but I don’t have a big advantage there as far as home and court. Like this is where I grew up on Lake Erie, so I choose to come over here.”

The Bassmaster Elite Series runs Thursday through Sunday.
