There are proposed cuts to cancer research in President Donald Trump’s budget for fiscal year 2026, and that has many in medicine sounding the alarm.
Cuts are proposed to the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, which both support a broad range of cancer research. Chair of Cancer Care Services at Corwell Health and Chief of Hematology at Michigan State University Dr. Anas Al-Janadi says research lays the groundwork for breakthroughs.
“Basic cancer research, the one that leads us to discover more about cancer and how to understand about cancer origin, progression, and what we can do to find treatment, for cancer,” Al-Janadi said.
Al-Janadi urges people to contact their representatives and senators opposing the cuts to research.
