Students are heading back to school, which also means many will be coming home with illnesses.

Dr. Kevin Dazy, a pediatrician with Detroit Medical Center’s Childrens Hospital says they see a spike in illnesses this time of year.

We get back into our routine of being in a classroom, kids all together, just exchanging those coughs and sneezes and viruses,” Dazy said. “Some kids, washing their hands may be better than other kids, but absolutely, we usually see a spike in sort of the viruses come back in the first, I would say, month of school.”

Dazy says its important for parents to bring their kids to the doctor for a wellness visit as the school year begins.
