No one’s hurt after a weapon was found in the parking lot of a Van Buren County school on Thursday.

The Van Buren Intermediate School District says a temporary hold of students was implemented at Van Buren Tech in Lawrence in the morning hours after the unspecified weapon was found during a routine sweep.

Van Buren ISD Superintendent David Manson says situations like this can be unsettling, but the district’s “safety protocols worked exactly as intended.” He says police and VBISD Emergency Management responded swiftly, and it was the vigilance of staff and support of law enforcement that ensured a safe and calm resolution.

The district says students and staff were not in danger at any time.
