Corewell Health has announced it is no longer providing gender-affirming care to trans minors.

The state’s largest health system by net revenue said this week it will “no longer prescribe puberty blockers or hormone therapy to minors for gender affirmation.” That’s after the organization back in February announced a pause in such care, only for the pause to be lifted days later. However, Corewell now says given the “serious risk of legal and regulatory action” it’s now stopped the services again.

In a statement to The Free Press, Corewell says, “Like many health care systems across the country, we made this decision to protect both our health care providers and our patients.”

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel on Friday issued a statement calling the decision disappointing. She says Corewell has “chosen to capitulate to the federal administration’s discriminatory campaign against the trans community, despite Corewell not being a target of any federal action in this realm.” Nessel adds the approach is shortsighted and “obey in advance.”
