A Berrien Springs man is facing charges after an armed robbery and chase in Oronoko Township Sunday.

The Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township Police Department says officers were dispatched to the BP Pri-mart station on M-139 just outside the village of Berrien Springs around 1:30 a.m. when the hold-up alarm was activated. They arrived to learn the suspect had already fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police say the suspect had a handgun, which he fired past the employee before leaving. The employee didn’t suffer any physical injury.

About two hours later, the suspect and his vehicle were spotted at the Speedway station in Berrien Springs. When officers approached, he sped off on South Main, driving into the St. Joseph River at the end of the dead-end street. He was then caught and taken to the Berrien County Jail.

The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Joshua Michael Bevans. He’s charged with armed robbery, fleeing police, and felony firearm.
