It’s almost time for a major football rivalry to play out again, right here in Southwest Michigan.
This Friday, it’s St. Joseph versus Lakeshore Football at Dickinson Stadium in St. Joseph.
The War on the Shore, as some call it, is a long-standing rivalry that always attracts a packed house. Ryan Cheevers, the producer of Friday Football Tailgate, tells us the one-hour show will air here on WSJM from 5 to 6 p.m. on game day. How does the Lakers-Bears rivalry compare to other high school football rivalries?
“When we ran kind of our numbers for this fall, I mean, we were in pretty big markets — Green Bay and Omaha — and we still were thinking that St. Joe Lakeshore might be the biggest of all the shows that we’re doing,” Cheevers said. “Just the history, the size of the football programs. And so this is going to be a huge, a huge event for us.”
Cheevers says the records don’t matter, the fans will show up to this Friday’s game.
Friday Football Tailgate, a high school football analysis show, started last year with four shows in Berrien County. Cheevers says this year, it’s expanded with visits to the defending state champions in Wisconsin and Nebraska. You can catch them this Friday on WSJM.
